Interior inspiration comes from many different sources, including books, magazines, the internet, interior design programs, and more. Many people like to pull photos out of magazines to use as a model. Others search interior design websites for their “dream home.” Still others are inspired by watching TV shows like House Rules or The Real Housewives of Atlanta. One of the most popular sources for interior inspiration is fashion magazines, which often feature models that are wearing the latest fashions.

One particular photo shoot featured in a recent issue of Lucky for young women featured several young stars from different genres sporting the new hip-hop look of fitted jackets and oversized textured clothing. Among them were two young women who could be recognized from a previous episode of Dancing With The Stars, Jessica Simpson and Kojak danced the night away on a red carpet, and Justin Timberlake performed with his band The Tennessee Exchange. Fashion design is another source of interior inspiration. The fall/winter seasons are when many of us shop for new winter coats or slushy drinks in a trendy coffee shop. Inspiration for the interior design can come from a number of places, but it’s probably no less exciting than dressing for winter. Many of us look at our favorite fashion magazines to find out what’s hot and what’s not. Sometimes we love what we see and want to wear that. Other times, we look at the ads the designers put in magazines and decide that we want to follow their example.

No matter how you decide to get interior inspiration, one thing’s for sure: it has to be stylish. Many people choose to use interior design magazines for inspiration, but be warned: they’re not going to give you an entire design concept. What you need instead, is simply a few sample colors, some type of focal point and a room map or floor plan. If you do your homework ahead of time, you can make an accurate room plan before you go looking for interior design supplies or inspiration. You might even find the perfect wallpaper to match your inspiration. Just remember: inspiration is fine, but overdone is unprofessional.

You don’t have to follow your inspiration all the time though. If you choose a color that’s too bold or bright, your room might not look appropriate. On the other hand, if you choose a color that’s not in style, you’ll have no place to display your interior design accessories. It’s important to keep in mind that although many people may use interior design magazines for inspiration, they’re only one of many resources for great interior design.

One final note: if you’re looking for inspiration, do something daring. Consider painting one wall in a very bold color or choosing a new color altogether. Some people like to make dramatic changes in small areas, such as changing the linens in the bathroom. Interior design doesn’t have to involve changing every single item in your home; many people choose simple, elegant changes to add just a touch of elegance to a room. As long as you use your imagination, and stay out of the typical redecorating path, you’ll come up with some interesting alternatives to the old-fashioned decorating styles.
